SKADAR LAKE

It is the largest lake not only in Montenegro, but also on the Balkan peninsula. It represents a natural border between Montenegro and Albania, with an area of 369.7 km2.

There are many islands and peninsulas on the lake with fortresses that represent the valuable cultural heritage of Montenegro. One of them used to be the capital (Zabljak), and the other was a dungeon, from which it was impossible to escape. However, one prisoner managed to do so, sailing from the prison island of Grmozur, using the prison door as a raft.

On the shore of the lake, you can take a break in the national restaurant, which offers a magnificent view of the island of Lesendro, a fortress that in the 18th century was a pillar of defense against Ottoman attacks, and later one of the favorite resorts of the Montenegrin Bishop Petar II.

SVETI STEFAN

When researching about Montenegro, it is very likely that the photo of the Sveti Stefan peninsula is the first one you will come across, and the most famous.

The story of this peninsula began back in 1442, when 12 families from Paštrović built a fortress surrounded by walls, so that the locals from the surrounding villages could take refuge during the attack of the Turks and pirates. In one of the attacks, the Paštrovićs managed to defeat the Turkish sailors, hijack the ship and financed the construction of the peninsula from the booty, on which one house was built for each of the 12 local tribes. The peninsula itself was named after the church of the same name St. Stephen.

At the beginning of the 20th century, as the economic importance of the island began to weaken, the inhabitants began to leave it.

In 1957, the renovation of abandoned houses began and the peninsula was turned into a hotel city.

From 1970 to the present day, this has been one of the most popular resorts of the world jet set. Sofia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Andrea Bocelli, Novak Djokovic, the Beckham family, are just some of the famous and famous to whom the “saint” opened the door.

Today, Sveti Stefan is one of the most popular places for photography and for drinking coffee from the beach with a view that has no price.
