KOTOR - Follow the Paths of the Conquerors
A city in the embrace of two mountains, attacked many times, and in the end unconquered. Due to its position, Kotor was the desire of many nations and rulers, and the numerous attacks it survived, significantly shaped its present appearance.
The high walls, whose construction began in the 9th century, are 4.5 km long and stretch from the sea, to the fortress of St. John, at an altitude of 260 m.
Among the people of Kotor and the locals, this fortress, known as the „Sanđovani fortress“, with its 1426 steps, is the first sight that will take your breath away. First of many that follow.
The entrance to the city begins by passing through the medieval Gate of the Sea, from where the cobblestones lead you to narrow streets and squares where medieval cathedrals are resting as witnesses of past times. Perfectly tucked away among the stone buildings are restaurants with national cuisine, unavoidable pastry shops and souvenir shops. Kotor is a city that abounds in historical, cultural, religious and gastronomic heritage, and certainly a place where you will want to come back.

PERAST - A quiet guardian of the Baroque Style
A fairytale place on the coast of the Bay of Kotor, in the 17th century known for its excellent sailors who gave rise to the best maritime school, and today a quiet town that offers the most beautiful view of the bay. There are as many as 19 palaces in the village itself, which were built in the Baroque style during the 17th and 18th centuries.
On the main town square is the church of St. Nicholas from 1616, and next to it in 1691 a bell tower was erected, 55 m high, for the construction of which 50,000 ducats were spent. In addition to this church, there are 17 other churches in the area of Perast.
Perast has two islands, which have an unreal view – St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks, and there is a church on each. Our Lady of the Rocks is an artificial island that was created by sinking sea ships and filling in stones. Today, the island stands as a testimony to the faith and dedication of sailors from the 15th century to the present day. For tourists who want to visit the island, there is a possibility of organizing a boat tour.
Unlike other coastal towns, Perast is a more cozy variant of the Mediterranean, an oasis of peace, historical monuments and gastronomic delicacies.
Did you know?
The Bay of Kotor is a place that has inspired poets, painters and artists around the world for centuries. Lord Byron’s statement has been recorded: “At the moment of the creation of the planet, the most beautiful union of land and sea took place on the Montenegrin coast”, referring to the Bay of Kotor. And it is these words, along with the words of the great Aleksa Šantić, who calls her the „Bride of the Adriatic”, that best describe the greatness, strength and timeless beauty of Boka.
